Here we've tried to cover any questions you might have about both our climbs this year. If we haven't and you'd still like more clarity then please don't hesitate to email us at
1. Do I need climbing experience?
Neither Gran Paradiso or The FTMB require technical climbing experience, all rope and crampon skills will be taught during the trip.
2. How fit do I need to be?
All climbs require a good level of fitness and participants are asked to train accordingly in preparation. We will be in contact after you register to discuss this further and provide comprehensive advice.
3. Do I need insurance?
Gran Paradiso / Mont Blanc / FTMB - you will need to check that your travel insurance covers you to altitudes up to 5,000m
4. What kit do I need?
Gran Paradiso / Mont Blanc - Walking clothes, Coat, Rucksack, Crampon compatible boots (these can be hired in Chamonix if preferred, along with crampons, harnesses and ropes).
FTMB - Walking Clothes, Coat, Rucksack, Hiking boots.
We will provide a full kit list on sign up that guides you through what you need and where best to source it.
5. What happens if I have to pull out?
Once your place is payed and secured we can not offer a refund if you have to pull out as there are limited spaces and we will have had to turn people away. We recommend that if you do need to pull out then you try and find a replacement in good time.
6. What happens if I don’t make the fundraising target?
The cost of the trips are subsidised in part by the charities so the targets are mandatory. If you think you may struggle to hit your target we advise teaming up with other people to reach a combined total. We will help everyone through this process and I’m sure together we can all get there however if you fall considerably shy of the target we will have to ask you to make up the shortfall.*
*All the sponsorship details, targets, setting up etc will all be explained clearly in your sale pack when you sign up.
7. After I sign up is that it until we leave?
Not at all. CHX will call you all personally to welcome you to each climb and answer any questions that you still might have. We'll also be getting together in the run up to each climb at least once to marry up some very manageable treks with a bit of social so everyone can meet each other before we set off for the real thing.
